Midnight Sunrise brings a color gradient inspired by the sky during sunrise.
Midnight Sunrise, featured as part of the renowned digital exhibition Midnight Moment—whose past contributors include Andy Warhol, Yoko Ono, Alex Prager, Pipilotti Rist, Sophie Calle, JR, and Björk—served as a subtle, visual meditation in the heart of Times Square.
This installation is placed in all the screens of Times Square. A place that can be understood as a real-time metaphor for the digital sphere—an immersive environment saturated with stimuli, vying for each passing glance, each fleeting thought.
In the attention economy world that relentlessly exploits every second of our gaze, Midnight Sunrise beckons us toward moments of pause, reflection, and genuine human connection. A sunrise during midnight. The gentle shifting of hue becomes a visual cleansing of the everyday feed, to remember that between the rapid-fire visuals that define our age lie opportunities for authenticity. In this symbolic dawn, we find a reminder that beyond the algorithmic scramble for our attention, true meaning is forged in quiet interludes, shared stories and nourishing bonds.
This digital work, a natural occurrence at an unnatural time, invokes a physical experience —a calm, contemplative moment in one of the most frenetic locations in the city that never sleeps.
Simultaneously a visual poem and a minimalist ode to ephemeral experience, the video installation uses the power of color to raise questions about time and space.
Midnight Sunrise was chosen as the Midnight Moment for October 2018 through an open call by Times Square Arts in partnership with Advertising Week and The Advertising Club of NY requesting proposals of original art by artists working in the advertising industry.
