My mother embroidered for Balenciaga and Pertegaz. Growing up, I watched her sew at home, far away from the glamour of fashion shows. So when I had the chance to cover haute couture as a photographer for W Magazine, it felt like the circle had come full.
This privilege allowed me to be in close contact with the great Maisons. The experience was both amazing and disillusioning. I was able to witness one of the most exquisite events in the world: clothing as self-expression, and couture as its ultimate art form. But at the same time, the front rows were filled with people more interested in taking selfies than in the collections.
That’s when I realized something was wrong — There’s a bug in the fashion system. That’s how Bugture was born.
